If I Had To Write About Cooking, What Would I Write?

Darren Teoh's picture

I would write about:

How fun it is.

How you really need to learn to crawl before you can walk, and how you need to get the hang of walking before you run, and then when you can run things really begin to take off.

Taste is paramount.

Standing at the chopping board, kneading, trussing, working your way with a pan can put a smile on your face.

Tasting something that tugs at your heart strings.

The joy of finding out something new can only be negated by keeping it to yourself.

Cooking is personal, your emotions seep into your food. A reflection of your character and state of mind.

Technique is always important.

Evolution and revolution at the same time.

Butchers remind me of surgeons, I can't say why.

If there is always an excuse to eat, there always should be a reason to cook.

Ingredients are your building blocks; bad ingredients, bad blocks, bad dish. There is no way to mask bad ingredients.

Stagnancy is death, progress is growth.

Never serve anything you won't serve your mother.

Science is evidence of creativity, cooking needs both.

Cooking - Our form of communication.

Always draw out what you have in your head. Sometimes it makes more sense on paper.

Document your failures. You can always use them later.

If all else fails, you can always just blend everything up and make it into a sauce.
