April 24th 2009 marked D-day for the Hospitality Management students of BA2A and BA1D who were undertaking the MICE course (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) offered in KDU. These students started off with nothing but each other, and their willingness to contribute creativity, mental, and physical support to the cause.
It all started some time in January when the class congregated at the One Utama McDonalds outlet, and a suggestion was put forth to arrange for a class project, a no-smoking campaign. This was the birth of the event with barely a few months to fully take shape.
Through hard work, sheer determination and pure persistence did they achieve such a feat of preparing an event that called on the attention of the Minister of health, countless sponsors, several media elements and high schools that were in support of their cause.
The day before the event saw the laboring of the students, giving 110% and pushing themselves to ensure that failure was not even a possibility, and there were many things to do.
The campaign featured an array of activities, from the launch with speeches by the Minister and the Principal of KDU, to a treasure hunt, a lucky draw, perfomances by Celebrity Fitness and the KDU Dance group, a yoga demonstation and so on.
Thanks to the help of their advising lecturer, Datin Puteri, the campaign went off without a hitch, in fact, it gained the commendation of the honored guests and attendees.
