A team of three KDU students brought home a Gold Medal from the recent FHA in Singapore (read more about KDUs involvement). The Food Hotel Asia is one of the most prominent events in the hospitality world. Ooi Shar Mayn, Amanda Yuen and Julia Ung took part in the Dream Team Challenge and tell us, how they experienced the event.

Oh the excitement! After weeks of planning, strategizing, meetings with Mr. Oliver, pondering over requisition lists and one busy Wednesday afternoon in the kitchen, finally the day of the Food Fest had arrived.

Our FHA Competitors 2010

What a day! The fifth installment of our annual treasure hunt / race, our Hot Cat Tour, coincided with the finale of the Power Chef competition and, thus, the college was packed with students from secondary schools from around the Klang Valley.
 

 The last SHTCA  English Week (EW, pronounced ‘evee’) 2010 was a week long activity from the 22nd to 25th February. The closing ceremony was also attended by the CEO and Vice Principal of College. The event coincided with  public speaking finals, debates and a line up of karaoke finalists too. The choir and dance presentations programmes included added to the carnival like atmosphere where everyone thought it was a great entertainment event as well.

This year's Hot Cat Tour had a new element, a video competition.
Teams could submit short videos about tourist hot spots in KL.

We have received twelve such videos and enjoyed watching them immensely. Students were surprisingly creative and apparently had fun, too.

A total of 2 lecturers, by the name of Ms. Nazaretha and Mr. Gabriel, and 31 students of KDU College majoring in Hotel and Tourism (BA2b and BA1f), took part on a trip to Pulao Langkawi from the 7th to the 9th of April, 2010 for an assessment of tour guiding skills for the subject called Operational Travel Business.
 
 These educational trips are part of the subjects’ syllabus and usually are accounted for 30% of the whole mark for the semester.
